HC301 - Runway Overrun During Rejected Takeoff
Air Senegal flight HC301, operated by Transair, departed Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) bound for Bamako, Mali, at approximately 01:14 local time on 9 May 2024. The Boeing 737-300 (registration 6V-AJE) was accelerating for takeoff from runway 01 when the flight crew detected a suspected hydraulic leak and initiated a rejected takeoff. Unable to stop within the remaining runway distance, the aircraft overran the departure end of the runway and rolled into soft ground before coming to rest. Upon stopping, the left wing and engine caught fire. All 72 passengers and 6 crew members evacuated the aircraft via emergency escape slides. Emergency services responded promptly and extinguished the fire. Eleven occupants sustained injuries, with four in life-threatening condition requiring immediate medical attention. The aircraft sustained serious damage to its left wing, engine, and undercarriage. Senegalese aviation authorities launched an investigation into the circumstances of the rejected takeoff and runway excursion.
