DL3247 - Flap Panel Separation on Approach
A Delta Air Lines Boeing 737-900 (registration N940DU) performing flight DL-3247 from Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to Raleigh–Durham International Airport (RDU) with 109 passengers and 6 crew was on approach to RDU on July 1, 2025. During final descent, a portion of the left wing's trailing edge flap separated. The crew continued for a normal, safe landing on runway 23R, and no abnormalities were reported during flight. Only upon post-flight inspection was it discovered that the flap panel was missing. The recovered flap panel was found in a residential driveway under the approach path. The FAA has opened an investigation into the incident, classifying it as a serious incident. Delta confirmed that a portion of the left-hand wing's trailing flap was missing and is cooperating with authorities.
