D82046 - Tire Explosion Forces Emergency Landing at Stockholm Airport
Norwegian Air Flight D82046, operating a Boeing 737-800 (registration SE-RRS) from Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), experienced a tire explosion during takeoff on August 27, 2025. The aircraft departed Stockholm Arlanda at approximately 9:05 AM local time bound for Paris with 181 passengers aboard. During takeoff, passengers heard a loud bang which was later confirmed to be a tire explosion on one of the aircraft's landing gear assemblies. The tire burst created significant shaking and vibration during the aircraft's ascent, causing concern among passengers and crew. The pilots immediately recognized the severity of the situation and declared an emergency, entering a holding pattern to assess the aircraft's condition and prepare for an emergency landing. After conducting a flyby that confirmed the deflated tire and evaluating the aircraft's handling characteristics, the crew made the decision to return to Stockholm Arlanda Airport for what they prepared passengers for as a "hard landing." The Boeing 737-800 successfully returned to Arlanda Airport at 11:45 AM local time, executing a safe landing on runway 19R despite the damaged tire. All 181 passengers were safely evacuated with no injuries reported. Emergency services responded immediately to runway debris scattered from the tire explosion. Norwegian Air provided a replacement aircraft for passengers to continue their journey to Paris, with the flight eventually reaching Charles de Gaulle Airport approximately 2.5 hours later than scheduled. The original aircraft was grounded pending investigation and repairs. Passenger Maya Carenco described the experience: "When [the plane] started, it shook a great deal. It shook and vibrated a lot. My legs are still vibrating." Norwegian spokesperson later stated: "I can understand that it might feel unsettling, but the landing was carried out without drama."
