UA32 - Cargo Fire Alert Emergency Landing
United Airlines Flight UA32, a Boeing 737-800 operating a tag flight continuation from Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) to Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) in the Philippines, experienced a cargo hold fire indication on September 12, 2025. The aircraft departed Tokyo Narita at 5:40 PM JST with 135 passengers and 7 crew members aboard. Approximately 40 minutes into the four-hour flight, while cruising at 34,000 feet over the Pacific Ocean, the flight crew received a cockpit alert warning of a potential fire in the cargo hold. The pilots immediately declared an emergency and initiated a diversion north back towards Japan. The aircraft performed a safe landing at Kansai International Airport (KIX) in Osaka at 7:30 PM JST. As a precautionary measure, the crew ordered an emergency evacuation using the aircraft's emergency slides. Airport emergency services responded immediately to the scene. Two passengers sustained minor injuries during the evacuation process and were hospitalized for treatment. Upon initial inspection by United Airlines maintenance personnel, there was no indication that an actual fire had occurred. The aircraft was grounded for comprehensive inspection, and passengers were accommodated on alternative flights.
