EK9788 - Cargo Plane Water Overrun
Emirates SkyCargo flight EK9788, operated by the Turkish carrier ACT Airlines with a Boeing 747‑400F (registration unknown), departed Dubai International Airport (DXB) on 19 October 2025 bound for Hong Kong. Approaching Hong Kong around 03:53 local time on 20 October 2025, the freighter attempted to land on runway 07L at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). According to reports from the South China Morning Post and Flightradar24, the aircraft veered off the runway shortly after touchdown, collided with a security patrol vehicle and broke through the seawall into the South China Sea. The four‑person flight crew evacuated via a hatch and were taken to hospital with injuries. The security vehicle was thrown into the water, fatally injuring its two occupants. No cargo fire occurred, but the aircraft sustained extensive structural damage. Emergency responders contained a fuel leak and initiated an investigation. Authorities from Hong Kong’s Civil Aviation Department and representatives of Boeing and ACT Airlines launched a joint investigation into the cause of the overrun.
